A design system does not need hundreds of components to be useful.
For a small team, start with typography, spacing, buttons, forms, cards and a handful of layout patterns. Document the decisions once so every new page does not become a fresh debate.
The payoff is consistency and speed. Developers can reuse known patterns, designers can focus on meaningful problems, and users learn how the interface behaves.
